About One of a Kinds:
Pieces in this collection are here until they're gone! They represent riffs on our core collection and are a revolving door of fun ideas and new shapes. If you love it? Don't wait.
A farmer in Silverton, Oregon, has cultivated a small forest filled with hundreds of rare conifers, from spiky fronds of cedars of Lebanon, to golden tendrils of Lawson cypress. When he invited us to walk through his exceptional trees and take clippings, Chris swung Laurily up on his shoulders, where she reached into the upper reaches of the trees, while we hunted for treasures below. With her child’s eye, she found our favorite piece of the day: the bright green tips that signal new growth from mature branches. They form the core of this collection: the actual shape of resilience and new life.
We work with all kinds of organic materials, but we never cast a single blossom – until we found these cedar flowers. But here’s the trick: they’re not really flowers at all. They’re actually cedar pinecones, collected in Michigan, that open to create this beautiful bloom. We love it because its simple beauty is so striking, whether it’s set as a single blossom or a whole cluster. And we love that this flower is one that never fades, but blooms forever.
Our daughter and children of our dear friends found these pods while playing in their hometown of Winter Park, and we nicknamed them because of their resemblance to the umbrella. They also remind us of tiny barnacles, ready to join us on a seaside adventure, but also of acorns, nodding high up in the leaves of a forest canopy. We love the simple elegance of their shape, and the way they form artful little clusters, like the facets of a gem, playful and beautiful and strong.
